These pads are much more absorbent than another popular brand that I have tried. I really appreciate not having to deal with separate inserts that i inevitably lose. I will definitely be getting more amie pads.
I ordered the "Basic Reusable Pad Starter Set" to see what the size and absorbency would be for options for bladder leakage. I would say that the liner and light weights would be acceptable for minor leaks (dribble) from an absorbency stand point, but find they are ride to close to the middle of the underwear for bladder leakage, great for period spotting though. If I would make any suggestion it would be a light absorbency but standard size pad for minor bladder leaks. I feel with all year wear (bladder leaks can come at any time) that something a little lighter for summer might be a nice option. Over all I am very happy with the product, but find standard size or longer is the only option for bladder leaks as they need to be position more frontwards to catch the drips.
So comfortable. I initially bought to have as a backup for my menstrual cup. I’m switching to just the pads because they’re so comfy and reliable. Easy to care for and love the wet bags! Makes that time of the month kind of fun!
I was really skeptical about trying reusable pads and even a little grossed out at the thought, but I wanted to find a pad that had a cotton topper as I was constantly getting skin irritation from disposable pads (likely from all the plastic against my skin). After searching online I came across Amie and discovered they are made in Ontario Canada (which is local and awesome)! I bought this assorted starter pack over a year ago and I'm super happy I found Amie and made the switch! I just purchased another light assorted pack but not because my original pack was worn out! They have lasted through tons of washes and get more absorbent the more you wash them I think. I have a small bucket with cold water and soap (oxy clean) I keep in the bathroom (hidden away) during that time of the month, and I soak them overnight, rinse well, and put them in with my laundry , they wash up great. I highly recommend them to everyone who will listen haha especially if you have sensitive and easily irritated skin. They are so comfortable I forget they are there sometimes. Well worth the money upfront and will save you tons overall as well as our landfills! Thanks Amie
This month is the first time I tried reusable pads. For a long time, I’ve felt conflicted about how much garbage is made when I’m on my period. I wanted to do better, and lead by example for my girls, but it was easier to stick with what I know works. When I saw the ads for Aime pads, I was inspired to finally make a purchase. I was intrigued that it is a small business in my province (because supporting local is important to me). I finally settled on the basic reusable pad starter set so I could try all the sizes. And I got the special edition axolotl print for my daughter who just became a teenager for when she needs to start using pads. I do like the pretty fabric designs. I noticed that (compared to my disposables) the fabric is more comfortable on my skin, and it does absorb a lot of blood, but I was feeling like I needed to change the pad more often than disposables because of the way the blood soaks into the fabric and feels wet. Disposables have a kind of mesh layer that is next to the skin, so it feels dry longer. So because only have a few to start, I washed my pads by hand every time I went to the bathroom. And if I knew it would be a longer time before I could change, I used disposables. Maybe the more I wash the reusables, they will lock the moisture in better. (I definitely achieved a better clean when I pre-soaked and washed in the laundry machine; hand washing was a bit of work to get all the residue out and hanging to dry took overnight.) I don’t have a heavy flow generally so I think that I like the standard size (for heavy flow days) or standard short (for lighter flow days) the best. The disposables I use are ultra thin regular from Rexall. Compared to the disposables, the Amie standard short pads are similar thickness and the standard ones are thicker and longer (but I do like the extra length for more coverage if the pad moves around; I think I need to break down and get new underwear to hold the pads in place more securely ;p) Overall I’m happy I finally tried them, and I think I will use them for the majority of my periods, especially when I’m around home and able to keep washing them. Oh, and I LOVED opening my order: the personal touch and wrapping details were such a nice treat!
